I've been everywhere with my 600E. I recently prepared a company presentation between Cardiff, Wales and London, England on the First Great Western railroad.
The 600E is about as big a laptop as you can use on the train. The First Great Western railroad has tables with facing seats as well as conventional row seating. The tables are about 2' x 3', shared among four seats. With the 600E lid at about 90 degrees plus some papers, I took up a little more than my fair share of the table.
The train was a little bumpy in places and had to go slow through a tunnel as a result of widespread flooding. I took a break for some coffee and just closed the lid—hibernation works perfectly every time under Win/NT 4.0.
After arriving in London, I found an Internet boutique in the airport with just 20 minutes left before boarding a flight to the U.S. and under a deadline to send the file that I had been working on to my colleagues in Switzerland. Borrowing the fax line, I used Dial-Up networking to connect to my ISP and e-mailed the file with no time to spare. The ThinkPad dials right away and makes the most of v.90 dial up connections. When in offices around the world, I use an ethernet connection to the company LAN through a combo Ethernet/Modem card. I've given presentations in NY, Switzerland, London, Washington DC—logged into the company LAN from home, hotel rooms, client offices. Never a hardware hitch!
