Integrated vs. discrete graphics
Integrated graphics offer lower cost – and longer battery life – because the video display technology is put directly on the motherboard, whereas discrete graphics use a separate plug-in or display adapter. Integrated graphics are comparable to discrete graphics for day-to-day use, but can lack some of the performance needed for intense 3D applications or games because they typically share memory with the CPU. Discrete graphics don't share memory that way and are the preferred choice for 3D applications and games, but consume more power and therefore can reduce the amount of time the notebook can run on battery. |
