Use the hard disk password to prevent the data on your hard drive from being accessed by unauthorized persons.
Use the supervisor password function to guard the system information stored in the BIOS Setup Utility by deterring anyone from changing the configuration of the computer without the password.
To prevent someone from removing your ThinkPad notebook without your permission, attach a mechanical lock to the keyhole on the rear side of the computer; then secure the chain on the lock to a secure stationary object.
In airports, choose metal detectors with little or no lines when possible. If it is unavoidable, wait until you are the next person to go through the detector before placing your ThinkPad notebook on the conveyor belt; keep your eyes on the notebook and be prepared to pick it up immediately after it goes through the detector. Theft of portable computers from airport metal detectors is a widespread problem.
